MEGA Music Workshop 2014

A-LISTERS HEADLINE MEGA'S 2ND ANNUAL MUSIC WORKSHOP

On behalf of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of MEGA 2014, we announce the hosting of the 2nd Annual Interactive Music Workshop designed to interrogate and underscore important issues within the Nigerian music industry, with particular slant towards the gospel music practice.

The organisers of MEGA (Awards) were sufficiently disturbed by certain issues and trends observed by members of the MEGA Nomination/Screening Committees during the screenings of over 8,000 songs of gospel artistes we have had access to (in the last two years). Perspectives were enriched by the diversity of challenges, depth, tendencies and admirable talents displayed by our artistes. However, we have seen areas that need improvement or revamping.

We believe the mind-rubbing of established artistes, producers, label owners, media executives with young or upcoming acts and many others who find relevance within the gospel music industry can only expand our understanding; and help all parties agree on certain standards and yardsticks that will enhance professionalism and our abilities to give off of our best – to the glory of God.

It is also critical to identify and redefine motives and desires that drive an average artiste to decide he/she wants to play or create music - specifically gospel music. Is he/she adequately prepared or trained or called for such a task? We hope to hear from those who wear the shoes, and those willing to help them shine/preserve them.

The one-day entertainment workshop is slated for 11am on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Venue is the grand precincts of The Events Centre, Alausa, (Behind Marwa Gardens, off Agidingbi Road), Ikeja, Lagos.

Admission is relatively free; as we hope to encourage more reservations by and invitations to practitioners and music ministers. Meanwhile, Mrs. Sola Agbe-Davies-led Events Centre is the current main supporter of the Music Workshop.

MEGA is simply Music and Entertainment Gospel Awards (aka Mega Awards), and it is in its second edition. The vision of the awards is clear: "To honour and celebrate the best Nigerian talents in the service of humanity and exultation of the Almighty". The main award ceremony is coming up in November, 2014.
