MEGA 2018 "PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS"

This is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to mark the sixth award season of MEGA which we are unable to conduct in our usual fashion. We therefore resolved to make the process 100% FANS' CHOICE (against our usual 10%).

So, you are in full control: You can nominate, de-nominate, and (later) vote for your best examples of excellent performers in each category. Now, observe closely the following instructions.

GUIDELINES:
- This post is not for VOTING... it's merely for SCREENING (who should or shouldn't be on the voting list)
- Only musical works released between the past 12-16 months may be accepted.
- Selections should be based on your understanding of excellence and quality, NOT relationship or other biases.
- Be fair, be truthful, be conscious of the God-factor in your selection or de-selection.
- You are free to suggest more impressive works/artistes not included; or advance reason(s) why a listed artiste should be dropped.
- This exercise runs from today, October 6 till 11.59pm of October 13.
- A date for voting will be announced at the close of this selection period.

See below our suggestions for the 2018 "People's Choice Awards"... without prejudice! God bless us all.

Thank you.

SHOCKS, SURPRISES, NOVELTY SIGN POST 5TH ANNUAL MEGA AWARDS

The Music & Entertainment Gospel Awards (aka MEGA Awards) was held on air(!) last Sunday, November 19, 2017.

As earlier reported, this year's award would have been cancelled on account of the violently harsh economic situation, but for the grace of God, the immense support & partnership of Raypower/AIT management and few dogged members of the award's CWC. These factors produced what has since been dubbed the first-of-its-kind award ceremony: the MEGA 2017 Live On Radio Show - presented, produced and spontaneous winners' remarks...all from the chilly sound-proof modestly large studio of Raypower, Lagos!

Now, wait for this: the live radio presentations were planed to run for two hours (4-6pm)... the 16 award categories spiced by six live performances spilled over 7pm... over three hours of pulsating presentations, nominations, music galore...and not a moment of respite!! Except for news at 6pm!

To compound the excitement, the octopodal AIT also covered the event to feed the limited live audience of eager nominees and officials who stormed the Raypower premises. As if that was not enough, another radio station, TopRadio FM, also hooked up live to us for one hour!

Top winners this year include Mike Abdul (Artiste of the year & 3 others), Florocka (Producer & 3 others) and Dieko (2 awards).

Young and immensely talented singers were unveiled in glorious live studio performances: Joecy Tee, Hope Levi, Desmond Ugegeh & Christomes. However, bigshots opened and closed the show with wind instrument and percussion - Segun Oluwayomi on sax (for MEGA theme tune & two solos) and master drummer Ayiki (Soji Ojemakinde) drummed off the spectacle!! All performed unplugged!!!

Our special thanks go to Ambrose Olutayo Somide & Yewande Iwuoha of Raypower FM and their magnificent staff; to Johnson Onime and Jiire Kuforiji of AIT and their never-say-never production staff. We are also grateful for the support of Lekan Onimole's TopRadio, Larry Izamoje's Brila Sports Radio and Special Crown Cakes. Massive kudos to our Body of Judges/Screeners who delivered admirably under clouds of uncertainty and extremely tight deadlines.

And to all our nominees who came under very short notice, braving the clogged roads of Alagbado under heavy re-construction, and too many others (entrants, friends, supporters, media, etc) who would have loved to come, we wish you all the best always.

Recall that MEGA was launched in 2013 to recognize and celebrate outstanding performances and exemplary talents in Nigerian gospel music community. In the words of Raypower's MD, Olutayo Somide: "Next year's MEGA will be bigger and much better" - to which we say a mega Amen!!

5TH ANNUAL MEGA (AWARDS) HOLDS NOV. 19... LIVE ON RAYPOWER!

The Music & Entertainment Gospel Awards (aka MEGA Awards), was launched in 2013 to recognize and celebrate outstanding performances and exemplary talents in Nigerian gospel music community. The first edition was executive-produced by Footprints Pub. & Media Ltd., a multi-media outfit, and organised in collaboration with the Main Organizing Committee (MOC). It was fully endorsed by Gospel Musician's Association of Nigeria, GOMAN.

The previous three editions held at The Haven (the prestigious 2500-seater event centre in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos) on Fridays, Nov. 8, 2013; Nov. 14, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015 respectively. All events were well-received and admirably supported with widespread media coverage.

Last year's edition was produced by the newly formed MEGA Foundation, a non-profit vehicle dedicated to the espousal of the vision/mission of MEGAwards. It held in the Main auditorium of NECA House, Alausa CBD, behind MKO Gardens, Ikeja, Lagos on Sunday, November 20, 2016.

Since May 15, 2017, the selection process has progressed from submission of entries, to the screening exercise by the Selection Committee, to the Body of Judges and finally the public voting process which began on November 5.

Nigerians have been voting for their favourite artistes on our voting platforms: www.facebook.com/megawardsng (or @megavote2) and the awards’ website (www.megawards.org/votenow.php). Voting, which carries 10% of the total aggregate, ends on Nov. 18 at 12 noon.

Unlike in the past seasons, when the number of categories range between 37 (2013) and 33 (2015), this year witnesses a massive cutback to only 18 award categories!

In spite of the economic conditions, our artistes continue to churn out great works in exulting the Almighty and inspiring His people. This is a major part of what motivates the award organizers to throw in all they've got to make the annual event impactful, ennobling and fulfilling.

Even then, this year's award could have been cancelled on account of the violently harsh economic situation, but for the grace of God, the support & partnership of Raypower/AIT management and few members of the CWC, we present the MEGA 2017 Live On Radio Show (on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017). The massive TV coverage of AIT is eagerly anticipated; including X2D, the faith-based family cable channel. We also expect live hookups from TopRadio FM, and other stations, both terrestrial and online.

The studio-based event is strictly for Pre-Nominees and their partners who reside in Lagos, BoJ members, Screeners & officiating CWC members.

Venue: AIT/Raypower Complex, No. 1 AIT Road, Raypower Drive, Alagbado, Lagos/Abeokuta Express Way, Lagos.

Time: 3pm.

Thank you very much for the support and understanding.

MEGA 2017: The Resistance Force!

Warmest regards.

Signed:
FEMI AKINTUNDE-JOHNSON
The Coordinator (MEGA)

REMARKABLE SPECTACLES OF MEGA 2016

The fourth edition of the Music and Entertainment Gospel Awards, MEGA, took place last Sunday (November 20) at the Main Hall of NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja-Lagos. Pomp, panache and elegance were put on display at this year’s ceremony, headlined by soar-away gospel artiste, Lara George.

The event was heralded by red carpet photo-ops, interviews and freestyle skits by up-and-coming artistes in the "MixZone". Performers included: Liyia (rapper), Bukie Xcel, Fido Cleft (highlife), Prof. HolyRock & MC Watermelon (comedians); Misiano & Da'Son (hosts).

A performance by Wonderboy, introduced by the duo of Broda Martyns and Jumoke Odetola, the main ceremony’s comperes, opened what would be a night of fun, celebration and emotional outpourings.

Incidentally, the male co-host earlier announced, Cute Sagay, a gospel artiste, suddenly disappeared few hours to the event, to the chagrin of the organisers. This slight setback prolonged the kickoff of the event slated for 5pm. That over, veteran actors and couple, Norbert and Gloria Young, presented the first set of awards, led by the “Amaka Igwe Music Video” category.

Video director, Sunny Peters snatched the award for his work, Eledumare by Oluwashalom, alongside three other nominees - Olayinka Davies, Pita's I'm Your Soldier; Obio – Obiwon's Floodgate and Lex-Ten with Prosper's Ochimana, The Great I Am. Following, Praise Machine, who defied his large frame and danced dexterously, performed to a great audience applause.

The second set of award presentation was done by the duo of talented actor and broadcaster, Yemi Sodimu and 2015 MEGA Artiste of the year, Mobolaji Olayinka (aka Psalmos).

Sodimu lauded the event organisers and expended a mild humour that threw the audience into a bout of laughter.
“This gathering is unique; it is the first where I see a pastor and a masquerade mingling”, said Sodimu, referencing Pastor Tunde Bakare and top Afro-high life singer, Lagbaja.

Soon, attention was riveted to the big, colourful LED screen hung over the stage where nominees and their works were played back.
The “Cover Art Design of the Year” was won by Designplus with Aity Dennis' God Of Wonders. Segun Obe’s “Holy Ghost Party” won him the Best Praise & Worship Medley; Mike Abdul’s Korede clinched the award for Best Singles Urban, while Praise and Worship Singles – went to Bright Edeh’s “Divine Surprise”.

Alaafin’s singer, “Nightingale” nicked the Contemporary Traditional Song of The Year in a tear-jerking emotional outpouring of gratitude and celebration! In addition, Aijay, with her song, titled “Igwe” took home double awards: Worship Song of the Year and Best Single Traditional.
Big winners that night were Diekololami (4), Port-Harcourt-based D'Kachi (3) and ace producer. Nathan Flo Akiremi (3).

The Producer of The Year Award was won by Nathan Akinwunmi Akiremi; and with “Mo Dupe - Ft. Judirocka” he bagged the Praise Song of The Year;.The third for him was Dr. Larry Izamoje Award For Vocalist Of The Year.

The splendid night continued with presentations of Collaboration of The Year award to Dkachi's Its Your Time; ; and also, the Adeyinka Bakare Award for Best New Artiste - he was nominated alongside Wordsmith, Oluwashalom and Yinque Afrique.

Just about settling down, another nomination put Dkachi on his toes, and it was nomination and win for his album, “Living Stream” in the Alma Rhom Album of the Year category. Others in that category were Florocka's Impressions; Segun Samuel's The Fruit Of My Lips and Dieko's “Can't Get Enough”.

Singer Dieko’s “I Look To You” won the Inspirational Song of The Year; the Dr. Tunde Bakare Award For Praise and Worship Album of The Year was won by her "Can’t Get Enough"; and the MEGA Song of The Year Award with “E Se”. The icing on the cake was Dieko’s "Can’t Get Enough" carting away the Artiste of The Year Award over great nominees like Florocka, Mr. Kee and Segun Obe.

For the first time, MEGA picked a Life Achievement Award recipient, and in colourful yet inspirational presentation by Steve Ayorinde (Lagos Commissioner for Information & Strategy,) and Larry Izamoje (Chairman, Brila Group)...to the iconic musician. Instrumentalist. producer and creative avatar, Laolu “Akins” Akintobi!

Highlights of the night was the presentation segment anchored by former vice presidential candidate and servant overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare and his adorable wife, Layide Bakare. The performances of Telemi, Monique, Esther Igbekele and of course, Lara George were equally enthralling.

Other presenters included: Taiwo Oladoye, Aimee, Lagbaja, Ladun Ogunbanwo representative of First Lady of Lagos State.
Some of the nominees who graced the occasion were: Praise Machine, Prince Da Psalmist, Ola Onabajo, Segun Samuel, Oluwashalom. YinQue Afrique, Ewoma E-wonda (Kaduna), Oluyinka Davids, Alex Lexten, Fechi (Kaduna) Faith Ajiboye, Ebubedike, etc.

4TH ANNUAL MEGA (AWARDS) HOLDS NOV. 20...

As we get set for the awards next week, here's our final "word"....thank you for being a great support. We cherish your support always. Hope to see you at the awards. Thanks. FAJ

Dateline: 12/11/16

The Music & Entertainment Gospel Awards (aka MEGA Awards), was launched in 2013 to recognize and celebrate outstanding performances and exemplary talents in Nigerian gospel music community. The first edition was executive-produced by Footprints Pub. & Media Ltd., a multi-media outfit, and organised in collaboration with the Main Organizing Committee (MOC). It was fully endorsed by Gospel Musician's Association of Nigeria, GOMAN.

The last three editions held at The Haven (the prestigious 2500-seater event centre in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos) on Fridays, Nov. 8, 2013; Nov. 14, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015 respectively. All events were well-received and admirably supported with widespread media coverage.

This year's edition is produced by the newly formed MEGA Foundation, a non-profit vehicle dedicated to the espousal of the vision/mission of MEGAwards. This event holds in the Main auditorium of NECA House, Alausa CBD, behind MKO Gardens, Ikeja, Lagos on Sunday, November 20, 2016, by 4.00pm (MixZone/Red Carpets).

Since October 17, 2016, the public voting process has thrown up exciting participation of Nigerians as they vote for their favourite artistes via www.facebook.com/megawardsng and the awards’ website (www.megawards.org). Voting, which carries 10% of the total aggregate, ends on Nov. 17.

Unlike in the past three seasons, when the number of categories range between 37 (2013) and 33 (2015), this year witnesses a massive cutback to only 18 award categories! During his brief remarks at last year's event, the award coordinator stated that the selection process has moved away from "Melodic" categorizations of award titles to "Thematic" categorizations. This has substantially reduced the number of available categories, and therefore strengthened the quality and keenness of the process.

Sunday, August 28, 2016 was a night of great music, model fun, extraordinary support and infectious goodwill, when MEFA Foundation was launched and a high-calibre Winners' Concert held at the Bauchi Hall of NECA House. All the selected past MEGA winners braved everything to perform: Kenny K'ore, Mike Abdul, Eben, Psalmos, Cute Sagay, Aimee and Da'Son.

It was at this occasion that two members of MEGA Foundation's Advisory Board elected to support the awards by endowing couple of the awards: Dr. Larry Izamoje (Chairman of Brila Group) picked the Vocalist of the Year and Mr. Adeyinka Bakare (MD of De-Potter Nig. Ltd.) chose the Best New Artiste. And out-of-the-blues special guest, Lagbaja surprised all by dedicating one of the major titles, Album of the Year, in honour of Mama Alma Rhom (90), the naturalised American music teacher and Baptist missionary emeritus who has chosen the town of Iwo, in Osun State, as her primary place of assignment... for more than 50 years!

Highlights of the 2016 award show will be the expected appearances of major performers on MEGA stage...they include the immensely talented Lara George and Tim Godfrey. The show will be enriched by the powerfully inspiring music of Monique, Esther Igbekele, Okiki Jesu Fuji, Praise Machine...and some up and coming stars of music and comedy. Fast-rising gospel singer/comic, First Born is also expected to thrill the specially invited guests.

The 2016 anchors follow in the trail of using star-power to run the show’s presentation. Ali Baba (2013), TeeA (2014), Joseph Benjamin & Deji Adenuga (2015). And for 2016: the award-wining duo of young actress, Jumoke Odetola and MEGA 2014 Single Song of the Year winner, Cute Sagay.

As usual, there have been clutches of supporters whose logistical and technical input have been pivotal in making the event possible. Sound and Lights, Stage Set, Performances, Equipment, Airtime (radio & TV), and several Logistics running into millions of naira have been largely donated to keep the dream of making MEGA the most prestigious awards in Africa on course. The much-hailed “megawards app” for Andriod was designed and installed by Benin City-based MousePlusMagic and Proclaim Media; while ArkMusik Int’l (all run by Noah Kbk Momodu) produced all the radio "jingles" played regularly on partner stations (Raypower, Faaji, Brila, Beat, Naija, Classic and Top Radio FMs); including internet radios (Gospotainment and Proclaim)

In spite of the harsh economic conditions, our artistes continue to churn out great works in exulting the Almighty and inspiring His people. This is a major part of what motivates the award organizers to throw in all they've got to make the annual event impactful and fulfilling.

NIGERIAN ARTISTES HONOUR AFRICA'S LONGEST-SERVING EXPATRIATE MUSIC TEACHER, MISSIONARY EMERITUS, MAMA ALMA RHOM, 90!

Nigerian ace musician and entertainment entrepreneur, the always enigmatic masked man, Lagbaja thrilled guests at the MEGA 2016 Winners' Concert back on August 28 with his "otherworldly" presence and participation that day. More exhilarating for organisers was his silent acceptance to endow one of the MEGA award categories.

Few days after the event, the highly reserved master instrumentalist not only confirmed his interest in the endowment, but performed all the requirements of the endowment procedures, to the appreciation of the organisers.

While the issue of name or brand title to use in addressing Lagbaja's gesture piqued the interest of the organisers, it suddenly appeared as if the master of grand entrances had concocted a grand disappearance! We could not reach him to finalise the issue.

And suddenly, well, as it has become second nature to him, Lagbaja surfaced - with a splendid idea for the endowment. The entire note is better posted in full measure.

Lagbaja writes: "FAJ. Apologies for the delay. Thanks for the privilege to choose. My choice is:
*Alma Rohm Album of the Year.

In honor of 90 year old Ms. Alma Hazel Rohm, the longest serving American missionary, who arrived in Nigeria in 1950 and naturalized after her retirement. She has served selflessly and has contributed immensely to the growth and development of gospel music and music education in Nigeria in general, and the Nigerian Baptist Convention in particular. She continues to live in Iwo, Oṣun State.

Please check out the links below or google her name for more info.

And we did research this jewel in our midst, that we must confess has been glowing under most people's radar for decades.

What we found about this magnificent angel has made us restless not only to drape her name on that prestigious award title....but also make serious efforts to encourage her to honour us with the immeasurable joy of her noble presence.

What a woman!

More details on Chief Dr. (Miss) Alma Hazel Rohm, the Emeritus Missionary fondly called "Mama Rohm" later.

Music & Entertainment Gospel Awards (aka MEGA Awards) was launched to recognize and celebrate outstanding performances and exemplary talents in Nigerian gospel music community.

The last three editions held at The Haven Event Centre, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos on Fridays, Nov. 8, 2013, Nov. 14, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015 respectively. All events were well-received and admirably supported with widespread media coverage. The fourth annual awards is slated to hold on November 20, 2016. After three glorious seasons at The Haven, this year's event shall hold at the main auditorium of Alausa, Ikeja-based NECA House edifice.

As usual, early in May, 2016, calls for entries rang out, and submission of entries for screening was even extended up till mid July. The screening committee and Body of Judges have since been mobilized, and working hard to deliver as best as they can.

Our Body of Judges/Screeners include Revd. Ekpeyong Bassey (Karis Band), Mr. Laolu Akintobi (aka Laolu Akins, ace producer/music advocate), Pastor Paul Tao El-Shaddai (veteran instrumentalist/producer), Evang. Tolu Gaye (ex-A&R Mgr, EMI), Mr. Funmi Onabolu (GMD, Cosse Group), Broda Martyns, Amos McRoy Jegg (recording artistes/ministers), Mr. Muyiwa Majekodunmi (of famed Jazzville/Praiseville concerns); Pastor Uche Chikwendu (youth/music minister), Ms Gloria Rhodes (of Steve Rhodes Voices fame), Pastor Abayomi Oladiji (Regional Coordinator, RCCG Drama), etc.

In spite of the dreary economic and political climate of the country, the gospel music industry continues to ferment creatively and produce exquisite blend of entertainment and ministration!

MEGA's first statement in 2016 was the successful organisation of the first Winners' Concert and Dinner Gala. It was a spectacular night of camaraderie and quality music, featuring Kenny K'ore, Eben, Mike Abdul, Cute Sagay, Psalmos, Aimee, Da'son and Ify Chukwu.

Incidentally, Nigerian lovers of gospel music will soon have the opportunity of voting for their favorites pre-nominated in at least 13 award categories, including artiste and best new artiste of the year, inspirational song, music video, etc. Voting starts on Monday, October 17, 2016 on two platforms only: the website of the awards (www.megawards.org) and our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/MEGAwards). WELCOME STATEMENT BY FEMI AKINTUNDE-JOHNSON (MEGA COORDINATOR) AT THE LAUNCH OF MEGA FOUNDATION, SUNDAY, AUGUST 28, 2016 (NECA HOUSE, IKEJA, LAGOS)

WELCOME STATEMENT BY FEMI AKINTUNDE-JOHNSON (MEGA COORDINATOR) AT THE LAUNCH OF MEGA FOUNDATION, SUNDAY, AUGUST 28, 2016 (NECA HOUSE, IKEJA, LAGOS)

Today marks the beginning of our exit from Egypt! We have spent too long a time exercising our intellect, lubricating our network of friends and generally bashing our heads against Corporate brick walls. But we have no Moses...very few Calebs and Joshuas... most of us only see giants and rough weather in what should be our Promised Land...

Yet, we don't want to go back to Egypt! The MEGA vision has been challenged and threatened serially by many factors in the Nigerian economic space - since the seed of MEGA was planted in 2012 - essentially because of its own uniqueness: MEGA focuses on faith-based, scripture-conscious music and related creative forms. After all, it's boldly titled "Music & Entertainment Gospel Awards"!

Yet, gospel music has produced incredibly great pool of talents and gifted individuals, over the past 100 years, who have gone ahead to astound the Church in reminding us where our hearts should rest. Though several gospel-groomed performers have morphed successfully into the World, their frustrations are understandable, not excusable.

Today, the artistes who dwell largely on gospel music receive less than 5% of what their secular colleagues get in terms of patronage, endorsement or sustainable support of any sort; and by extension, any platform (like MEGA) that seeks to showcase their incredible talents and soul-lifting messages is accorded cold shoulders by major corporate institutions. Apparently their Corporate Social Responsibility quotient is offended by any stain of spirituality!

Had God not raised some fantastic people who are owners of equipment, logistics, media outlets and sundry supplies; or some sensitive individuals, friends and few corporate bodies who have shown us uncommon interest and support in the past three years, we would have been forced to close shop long ago. Even as I speak, last year's trophies are still in the custody of the freight agent!

Yet, we have big dreams for MEGA - even when we have no coat of many colours now. We dream of a not too distant time when a MEGA HOUSE will rise with different floors representing facets of musicology and gospel entertainment: Music Production Studio, Video Production facilities, Study & Research Programmes, Exhibition Hall, Listening & Viewing Rooms, Training & Workshop facilities, Archival and Inventory Library, International Exchange Programme, a Hall of Glory documenting and showcasing musical works of great exponents of spiritual compositions - preserved, taught and shared with younger generations.

So, in the fourth season of the MEGAWARDS, we have decided to quit struggling on our own strength and seeking help majorly from the "World". We have elected to hand it all unto Him whose capacity to make us excel and make provision available is unimpeachable - the Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

That is the major reason for today... we aren't going back to Egypt! It is on this mountain that the need to establish MEGA FOUNDATION (MEGA-F) is planted. The Foundation, briefly, is designed as a non-profit organization moderated by an Advisory Board which include well-respected, God-centred Nigerians who share in the vision and mission of MEGA; men and women of repute who are willing to provide leadership, mentorship and governance structure that will not only sustain the Foundation's objectives, but infuse the workings of MEGA with greater percentage of integrity, fairness and transparency.

We are very grateful for the great people who have accepted to be part of the Advisory Council - may God add to your wisdom, capacity and resourcefulness. And we thank Pastor Tunde Bakare (Serving Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly) for not only accepting to chair today's event (though we fixed the date behind him), but has also agreed to be one of the Patron Saints of MEGA. We pray for more Fathers and Mothers to allow themselves to be used of God to further His Word through Sounds!

GOD BLESS MEGA. GOD BLESS NIGERIA. GOD BLESS HIS CHURCH

MEGA ENTERS NEW DAWN

It is with joy and praises to God we announce that MEGA Winners' Concert (Gala Nite & Dinner) held on Sunday, August 28 was a great success...! Indeed a revelation!

It was a night of great music, model fun, extraordinary support and infectious goodwill... By the special grace of God, all the artistes billed for the NECA House (Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos) showed up to perform!

ALL without exception...: Kenny K'ore (in spite of certain distractions)... Mike Abdul (though he had a concert earlier same Sunday)...Eben (straight from the airport, all the way from Owerri)...Psalmos (with the entire young family)... Cute Sagay (ever cool and considerate)...Aimee (taught us a different route to the Spoken Word) ...Da'Son (patient and pulsating).

Yet, the rains ebbed and drizzled...never stopping...but that didn't stop the cute Bauchi Hall from reaching its capacity!

And our MCs held the forte well: the magnificent Yemi Shodimu and elegant songstress, Ify Chukwu!

Young comedian, MC Watermelon also thrilled, as well as cameos by a young rapper, TLG and hostess turned singer, Ify.

But it was not all gospel artistes - Lagbaja (the purple/cream-garbed masked man) made a surprise entrance mid-way, and chimed a traditional gospel song, "Gb'ope mi Oluwa..." - to the great delight of all around.

The warm and inspirational presentation of the former MD of Samsung Nigeria, Idorenyen Enang, who stood in for the Serving Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare as Chairman of the occasion, was also a revelation. He launched the MEGA Foundation whose Advisory Board was ably represented by Dr. Larry Izamoje (Chairman of Brila Group) and Mr. Yinka Bakare (MD of De-Potter Nig. Ltd.). Enang also unveiled the Award Endowment concept of which two or three categories were snapped up same night. More details later.

A Special Recognition Award was presented to Teju Kareem-led Zmirage by Special Guest, Lagbaja. It was collected by top actress, Lillian Amah.

Other guests include Amb. Korede Willoughby, Lampe Omoyele (MD, Nielsen WA), Tokunbo Willoughby, Tunde Kolawole (USA), Olatunde Olajide, Louis Aseme, Funso & Kemi Ige, Christian & Deola Ike, Uche Chikwendu & wife, Femi & Moji Aremu (of Hotel Support), Broda Martyns, Femi & Yinka Oyeniyi, Femi & Toyin Ojo , Femi Olotu &wife, and many more.

The main awards is slated for November, 2016

INTRODUCING THE MEGA-F GALA NITE & BENEFIT CONCERT

Dear friends.
Hope this meets you well.
Kindly make effort to read this piece, and join us to keep this dream alive - in spite of our current peculiar environment.
God bless you richly... Amen!
- Admin.

Music & Entertainment Gospel Awards (aka MEGA Awards), was launched with a vision to recognize and celebrate outstanding talents in Nigerian gospel music community. The last three editions held at The Haven Event Centre, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos on Fridays, Nov. 8, 2013, Nov. 14, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015 respectively.

Our Body of Judges/Screeners include Revd. Ekpeyong Bassey (Karis Band), Mr. Laolu Akintobi (aka Laolu Akins, ace producer/music advocate), Pastor Paul Tao Elshaddai (veteran instrumentalist/producer), Evang. Tolu Gaye (ex-A&R Mgr, EMI), Mr. Funmi Onabolu (GMD, Cosse Group), Broda Martyns, Amos McRoy Jegg (recording artistes/ministers), Pastor Uche Chikwendu (youth/music minister), Ms Gloria Rhodes (of Steve Rhodes Voices fame), Pastor Abayomi Oladiji (Regional Coordinator, RCCG Drama), etc.

Our vision has been challenged serially by many factors in the Nigerian economic space - since inception in 2013 - essentially because of its uniqueness. We focus on faith-based, scripture-conscious music and related creative forms.

The artistes who dwell on gospel music do not receive even 10% of what their secular colleagues get in terms of patronage, endorsement or sustainable support of any sort; and by extension, any platform (like MEGA) that seeks to showcase their incredible talents and soul-lifting messages is accorded cold shoulders by major corporate institutions who find it expedient to plunk millions into popular culture.

Though some sensitive individuals, friends and few corporate bodies have shown us uncommon interest in the past three years, such support is however inadequate that on many occasions, organisers have had to task themselves to raise personal funds so as to keep the vision alive.

In this fourth season of MEGA, and with diminishing hope of accessing funding through traditional means, we have resolved to organize a fund-raiser that will broadly achieve two major targets:
1. Produce a Dinner/Concert where robust ticket sales can provide enough funds to execute the main awards scheduled for November, 2016.
2. And secondly, use the Dinner/Concert Gala to launch the MEGA Foundation, MEGA-F.

Briefly, MEGA-F is designed as a non-profit organisation to be moderated by a Board of Trustees peopled by esteemed Nigerians who share in the vision/mission of MEGA.

We pray that you will seize this opportunity to support this fund-raising effort by buying tickets for yourself, family, friends and/or associates, and help us keep the dream alive.

The tickets range:
- Sapphire: N20,000 (Single); N30,000 (Couple)
- Ruby: N50,000 (Single); N70,000 (Couple)
- Emerald: N150,000 (Table for 8 people)

For Reservations & Enquiries, please call Anne on 0803 315 0547 or Yomi on 0802 303 9275.

May God Almighty recompense you amazingly. Amen.

Thank you for reading, and participating.

SPARKS AND SPARKERS AT MEGA 2015...

By 5pm...we were ready...the anchormen (Joseph Benjamin and Deji Adenuga, both accomplished actors) were ready... six of the day's 10 performers had earlier completed their sound-check, and were ready.... By 5.30pm (the scheduled time) the waiting began... then news filtered in about the more than usual Friday traffic jam - apparently worsened by the three major petrol stations around Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way (leading to the GRA venue of the awards)... we started receiving calls from all over Lagos as people stayed stuck bumper-to-bumper within a 1000 meter radius around Maryland/Anthony, etc for two, three hours!

And we waited more as the near empty hall filled up slowly and sluggishly....just before 6pm, two comedians came on stage to relieve the tedium of waiting for other guests... and they went on and on...keeping the hall lively as more people came in.... By 6.30pm, we had to start...as the awards planned for two stages (the first 19 awards for the Main Show; and the other 14 for the Soiree: After-party) could not wait any longer.

So the National anthem and Theme Song kicked off (led by Nelson Akogo (from PH) on violin, Sammy the Pianist and Dimeji 'Mr. Jay" Durotoye, the event's music director/producer). First set of presentations was handled by vivacious actress, Lillian Amah and ace musician/producer, Broda Martyns (of Mushin Olosha fame). See list below of all nominees and winners.

For the first one hour, Joseph Benjamin did a yeoman job zapping up the audience...Deji Adenuga (just in from Dublin, Ireland) who took over the anchoring fully also thrilled the people in his own style... Some winners who came after their names were called were recalled to take the honours properly... D'Kachi (from PH), Razphil (from Jos), Da'Son (Lagos)...

Other performances were by velvety Elohan, bubbly Jameslord, ageless Pat Ann Inyang, the very electric Esselyte, the lovely Liza-C, the sonorous D'Smart and the vibrant Ogecha (from Benue).

Soon it was 9pm...and the awards had to be shut down...yet more than 8 award categories were still undeclared...and some scheduled performers (Psalmos, Okiki Jesu, Eben) could not be accommodated due to time constraints and late arrivals.

We also had the great pleasure of presenters like Chief Tony Okoroji (Chairman of Coson) who encouraged the organisers glowingly; Mr. Muyiwa Majekodunmi (of Praizeville); Mr. Funmi Onabolu (GMD of Cosse Group); Dr. Ambrose Somide (GM of Faaji FM); Ms Joy Chinwokwu, Mr. Tunji Sotinmirin (UNILAG lecturer and musician), Mr. Lampe Omoyele (MD of Nielson Nigeria); Revd. Timi "Telemi" Orokoya and the available members of the organising committees (who presented the Artiste of the Year trophy to the winner, Psalmos).

And thus the curtains fell on MEGA 2915....
See you next year.... without the traffic and fuel scarcity issues!
